Vanity Fair, a major U.S. publication, has been involved with a grueling legal battle for the past two months. The publication claims to have knowledge "developed by first-hand sources" concerning a car accident in 1964. The sources claim that John McCain was involved in a car crash near the main gate of a Virginia naval base in 1964, which possibly resulted in a fatality.
The Navy refuses to release the documents.
"Plaintiffs have also obtained documents showing that law enforcement officers were ordered back to the accident scene to retrieve personal physical effects. The Navy has never publicly acknowledged this information. This request involves federal government activity, as it addresses what may be an attempt by the Navy to protect by concealment the involvement of a former Navy officer, sitting Senator and Presidential candidate in a serious incident involving the injury or death of another human being," states a legal document composed for the case.
